Family caregivers deserve support

Many relatives do not yet know that they can receive support. They often work hard in silence while caring for their loved ones. Thanks to new legislation in Switzerland, it is now possible to be employed and remunerated as a family caregiver.

Our offer for family caregivers

We offer an hourly wage for basic care services, including private social insurance contributions (e.g. AHV, ALV, KTG, UVG, BVG).

Depending on the canton, up to

CHF 42 per hour

for caregiving relatives who have completed an SRK nursing assistant course at their own expense.

Depending on the canton, up to

CHF 38 per hour

for caregivers without a nursing assistant diploma. In addition, we cover the costs for the SRK nursing assistant course. An 18-month commitment is required for this.

From needs assessment to payment: Your path as an employed carer

Before you are employed as a family caregiver, we carry out a thorough needs assessment. Our aim is to ensure that you receive the best possible support and that we meet the specific needs of you and the person you are caring for. This consultation is free of charge.

Good to know: Basic care services

Employment as a family caregiver only covers basic care services. Basic care includes the basic activities required to support and maintain the personal hygiene and physical well-being of a person who is unable to take care of themselves due to illness, disability or age.

Basic care usually includes the following areas:

Body care:

This includes washing, bathing, showering, brushing teeth, shaving, washing and styling hair, nail care and other aspects of personal hygiene.

Nutrition:

This may include help with eating and drinking, especially if the person has difficulty eating or drinking independently.

Mobility:

Assistance with movement, including help with getting up, lying down, dressing and undressing, and assistance with walking if required.

Going to the toilet:

Assistance with toileting, including help with incontinence care.

Skin care:

Basic care can also include regular skin care to prevent skin problems such as bruising, redness or dehydration.

Your rights and obligations as an employee

When you are employed by SpitexCare, you receive an employment contract with clearly defined rights and obligations. You will receive a certificate of employment and we, as a care company, take responsibility for the care work and look after our employees.

Further training

We offer education and training to ensure you have the skills and knowledge you need to provide the best care for your loved ones.

Who can be employed as a family caregiver?

Direct relatives, close persons such as partners or close acquaintances who provide basic care services can be employed. The minimum age for employment is 18 and the person should not yet have reached retirement age.

Training for family caregivers

So that you are sure of your abilities, we recommend that you complete a care assistant certificate for C services "Basic care", e.g. the SRC care assistant course. We will cover the costs of the course. It prepares family members to care for relatives and consists of a course component and a practical assignment.

Mastering challenges together

If you decide to work for us, this means that you are now both a family caregiver and a service provider for Spitex. You will be working in a dual role. We will help you to master this new role and make sure that you do not take on too much. If you wish, our case manager will accompany you responsibly and offer you the opportunity to receive professional support in your home care situation. In this way, crisis situations can be counteracted. With us, you naturally also have the right to vacations and rest days.

FAQ for family caregivers

  • When do I qualify as a family caregiver?

    If you care for a family member at home, i.e: Parents, partner, children, siblings or grandparents. Typical clinical pictures are e.g: Cancer, dementia, multiple sclerosis, age-related impairments, various disabilities.

  • How does SpitexCare support family caregivers?

    • Payment of wages and social security
    • Development of an individual care plan
    • Support from qualified nursing staff
    • Courses and further training
  • Do I have to have nursing training in order to be paid as a family carer?

    Yes, nursing training is mandatory. We will accompany and support you in obtaining the nursing assistant certificate.

  • Which care tasks are compensated?

    Basic care activities:

    • Eating and drinking (feeding meals)

    • Dressing and undressing (e.g. putting on compression stockings)

    • Personal hygiene and hygiene

    • Mobilization and positioning

    Caring activities such as keeping someone company or going for a walk are not included.

  • How much salary will I receive?

    SpitexCare will employ you. Your salary depends on whether you have already completed training as an SRC care assistant. If you have already completed the training, you will receive – depending on the canton, up to CHF 42 per hour. If you have not completed training, you will receive up to CHF 38 per hour. We will cover the costs of training as an SRC care assistant and you will commit to remaining employed with us for 18 months.

  • Am I entitled to vacation?

    You are entitled to leave as agreed in your contract. During your absence, we will take care of your sick relatives.
